Richard's Story
23 years at Texas Instruments (actually, 15 with Burr-Brown, which got absorbed by TI).
Computers, computers, & more computers....
One son, now 20 yrs old, in college.
My much better half is Mary Lou, for 26+ years.
Other than computers, I fuse glass, do ceramics, love older british cars, bike and go to the gym a lot.
Several serious eye operations (more than on one hand, but who counts anymore) but I see better now with glasses than I did in HS.
Definately a dog lover! No cats.- OK - got adopted by a cat a year ago (rescued from a coyote), and now that my allergies are gone, I love the cat.
Stayed in Tucson all these years. And I haven't seen anybody that I went to Rincon with in the last 15 years or so. I missed the reunion in 2000.

I got forced to "drink the coolaide" by Texas Instruments, but I wasn't alone : most of the non-Dallas based IT people were let go. Have had much more time to work on the old cars, get to know my family again, and become a better less-stressed human. My recommendation is to plan your layoff so that it doesn't correspond with a summer in Tucson, if you can't travel.
Update on May 2012 - after two years of sem-retirement doing contract IT stuff, it's back to a real job with a real nationally based company doing much what I did before. Lost my Mom 2 years ago, and both my mother and father in law a year ago. Probate and house fixing/selling is hell. That's 95% over now - just looking forward to work, work, and more work!
