Richard's Story

Life Okay, I'm feeling a bit more positive about my life than the last time I entered info to my bio. I am now divorced (and fully accepting it). I live in Prescott, have a great dog (Sam, a black Chinese Pug), own my place of residence (unfortunately a mobile home, Casa Alcoa), have two great kids and three grandkids, am retired from the City of Phoenix but have to split my pension with the ex, collect automotive history books, like music (ragtime, civil war tunes, big band and early jazz, classical and classic rock), used to have a really neat sports car which I sold since it seemed incongruous to own a car worth three times the value of my home, am in fairly good health despite the typical ravages of time (BP, hi cholesterol, joint degradation, baldness and flab - you know the routine), and am looking forward to many more years in spite of it all. To all you folks who remember me from high school, I HAVE CHANGED! If that helps. Hopefully you have too. Assuming you don't have grudges or axes to grind, I'd love to hear from you. eat leveler - wealth, fame, accomplishment, infamy, it all sort of fades in significance (the good more than the bad) when viewed against the forbidding tapestry of mortality. Time and distance may have either moderated those emotions, beliefs and actions which were so much a part of our youth, or it may cast them in sharper and more painful relief. In my case (possibly levened by my lack of conspicuous success in life), I find that I am more accepting of the errors and excesses of my youth, and more understanding of the same in my peers. Having survived this long, I feel oddly privileged to be afforded the opportunity to reconnect with folks I have avoided for the past 45 years. At this point, I think I may have things to learn from them, and perhaps they have things to learn from me. Who knows without asking the question. Anyway, I am open to the experience. After all, the present is the sum total of our lives to date. We have made our beds, for better or worse, and we must deal with that. Does this all sound too grim? Garsh, I must need another beer.
