Richard's Story
Hi all! Some of you have asked me to share a little about myself. So here goes:
After high school I got married. Had three boys and got divorced. It seemed about that quickly, too. Anyway, I am currently married to my second wife. I have two step-children. None of the children live at home, they are all grown. I have three grandchildren.
I worked at one job for almost ten years from 1974 to 1984 and then got laid off. It took me about seven or eight months to find another full-time job so I worked part-time. After getting laid off I attended Control Data Institute in WV and got a Certificate of Completion in Computer Repair and Microprocessing Techniques. It was during this schooling that I started working a full-time temporary job while still working part-time and going to Control Data. My day ran from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. five days a week and I worked at my part-time job 8 hours on Saturday. I did that for six months until I graduated from Control Data. It was during this time that my first marriage fell apart.
I took a 2 month leave of absence in the middle of my course at Control Data to try to salvage my marriage. Sad to say i...Expand for more
t didn't work. The marriage failed anyway. But because of this leave of absence I was never able to complete the job search portion of the class, though I did complete the class work, and was able to graduate. But never got a job in the computer field.
The full-time temporary eventually turned into a full-time permanent job and I was there 22 years.
In Feburary 2006 I injured my knee exercising at home and to make a long story short have had two knee surgeries. My company's disability policy was that after you were on long-term disability for 60 days you were terminated so in August 2007, after 22 years of service, they terminated me. I am still on disability which they are currently re-evaluating. In the mean time, they are sending me to Hagerstown Community College for Information Technology in the hopes of training me for a new career. I have been told by the surgeon that my knee will never be right and I cannot go back to the type of work I was doing.
So that's it in a nut shell. Not all that exciting except for one thing. And this is the best part:
In March of 1979 I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior.
