Richard's Story

After High School, I started U of Akron in the School of Engineering. For the summer of 1980, I took a 6 week job in the metallography lab at TRW in Minerva. The six week assignment was an open door and I was blessed to continued to work at the Minerva plant through August of 1997 in various Engineering capacities ending up as the Quality Assurance Manager. (The plant was purchased by PCC in 1986) I married in 1982 and three sons were born along the way in 1985, 1988 and 1990. I was divorced in 1994 during the ugly chapter of life. I ended up single, working and with full time custody of the three children. I (happily) remarried my current wife (Beth) in 1996. I left PCC for a short time in 1997-98 for a job in the greater Los Angeles area. LA was no place to raise a family so the next assignment was back with PCC for three years in the UK. That was a great experience. We returned to the US in June of 2002 and I continued with PCC as the Airfoils Division Engineering Systems Manger. Beth adopted the boys in July of 2003. Our oldest son married 08-08-08 and now lives in Phoenix. No. 2 son is in the 101st Airborne Infantry and spent his first year in Iraq, now at Ft. Campbell in KY. No. 3 son is just finishing his freshman year at Grace Bible Colleg...Expand for more
e in Grand Rapids. I am into raising live coral in a 125 Gal reef tank. I have an African Gray parrot named Gideon who talks almost non-stop and my wife has a pair of South American Caiques (Nikki & George). We also have a dog and a pair of cats lurking around the house somewhere (I think). My daily commute from Massillon to Eastlake is almost 70 miles one way so my daily driver is a 2009 natural gas powered Honda Civic. For serious driving I keep a super charged Honda S2000 and a 645ci in the garage along with two vintage Kawasaki's and a Victory Kingpin. There's a little bit of room left for my wife's car in there too. As with many of us from the Minerva Class of 78 and the U of A class of 82, turning 50 is just around the corner. We have fewer days ahead of us than behind us so, by the grace of God, we need to leave something of value behind. I am (once again) teaching adult Sunday school, doing weekly bible studies with troubled boys at Indian River and remain active with The Gideons International distributing Bibles. Well, those are the highlights of life for the most part. I'll wait a few years then think about updating this again. To the Class of 78, sorry I was unable to make the 30 year reunion. Maybe next time. Blessings to All - Rick
