Rick's Story
I was born again on December 9, 1986...
While at the funeral of a friend's 7-year-old son, God revealed four things to me:
First, if a seven-year-old boy could die of a heart-attack so could I at the age of thirty-two.
Second, if that was my body in the casket my soul would have gone straight to hell because my relationship with God and my relationship with others was not right.
Third, I thought I had control of everything in my life but I didn't even control my next breath or my next heartbeat; God controls these things.
Fourth, the night before the funeral I could not get to sleep. So, I got out of bed, searched for, found, dusted off my Bible and read Proverbs, chapter three.
At the funeral the following day the pastor officiating the service informed us that this boy would regularly memorize Bible verses. The week of his death he memorized "Proverbs 3:5-6"; "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely upon your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will make straight your paths".
"Trust?" I couldn't even trust myself and now I was being told to trust in who? I then remembered, back in a college psychology course, studying Eric Erickson's theory where he states that 'trust' is the very first level, one that should be completed during infancy, of eight foundational ...Expand for more
levels that stack upon one another and must be accomplished in a person's life in order to successfully reach maturity. I then realized that since the foundation of "trust" was never laid in my life that trying to then stack the other seven levels upon the lack of the foundation of trust was the root cause of all my immaturity. I have since learned that "Trust in the Lord" is the essential foundation for 'normal living' in every person's life!
Many years have passed and I am still as excited as ever about the difference Jesus Christ has made in my life and can also make in the lives of others who will simply place their faith in Him.
Together with my wife, Becky, I now pastor a church, I have written a book titled, "Creating Christian Communities - The Structure & Strategy of a Simple Cell-Based Church System", I am a Cell-Church Consultant teaching a seminar titled "Boot Camp - Practical Training for Cell-Living", and I am the Founder & Director of an online long-distance learning corresspondence school known as "The School of Cell-Based Church Planting".
