Rick's Story
After High School I attented Texas Southmost College in Brownsville while working at JC Penney (Sun Valley Mall) and also at the Sport Palace Gym in Harlingen. Now those two jobs were probably the most fun I ever had working a job in my entire life.
Moved to San Marcos, Texas in January of 1983 to attend Southwest Texas State University. Actually roommated with my cousin Ronnie Juarez and Ricky Serrano (class of 1980).
After the 6 1/2 yr plan I finished my BBA with a major in Accounting. I still don't know how I pulled that one off. College was tough for me as no one in my family had ever earned a college degree. Probably one of my proudest accomplishments.
I started working for a small manufacturing company here in San Marcos for 11 years before it closed down. Then started working for Butler Manufacturing Company in 1998 and am going on 11 years now. Have had a pretty steady and colorful career with Butler including everything from production management, continuous improvement, quality, training and special projects that take me to other Butler plants in Mont...Expand for more
errey, Mexico; Jackson, Tennessee and Kansas City, Missouri. Butler Mfg manufactures pre-engineered custom metal buildings Actually lived in Kansas City for 17 months working on an IT project for Butler back in 2001. That was alot of fun. I enjoy the traveling and enjoy what I do. I have also done some public speaking on leadership topics and have on occasion presented spiritual messages at my church.
I was single, by choice, until I was about 42. Finally tied the knot to Sandra and we are going on six years in September. We've got a great marriage and enjoy our life together.
I travel to San Benito pretty often to visit my family and they also enjoy coming to San Marcos for long weekends.
Life has been good to me and I treasure all God has given me. My Christian faith has grown tremendously over the last several years and it has enhanced every part of my life. My wife and I are very involved in the ministry of our church here in San Marcos. I serve as an Elder and my wife leads the Women's Ministry. Looking forward to hearing from some SBHS classmates/friends.
