Rick's Story
It's been a pretty good run so far, I guess. After high school I enlisted in the Navy (I know,I know----many of you warned me) spending most of my time overseas. I did some interesting things while in the service, and my training as a Navy diver eventually led me into my career, so no regrets there.
Discharged in '75, I went to CSM for an abridged year (I didn't get enough football in high school and thought I still wanted to play) but trying to work full time, play ball, and actually go to class began to make my mind wander. Guess I never found anyone more captivating than Joe Catterin.
After a stint of commercial fishing out of HMB, I got restless and started looking around. At 22, I realized I still had some travelling to get out of my system, so I headed back overseas.
The trail led eventually to New Zealand, where I took on a "temporary" job as a commercial diver to save up for the next push. This led to a further 15 years working (again mostly overseas) on dive crews in the offshore oil fields.

all commercial diving/marine construction company (northcoastdivers.com) which has had it's interesting moments. It won't make the Fortune 500, but you should see my tee shirt and toy collection.
I have been married for 21 years (second time around) and as of this writing my wife still seems to tolerate me well enough, so I'm pretty sure she's going to heaven. I have three great kids---Richelle, 30, who lives and works on the coastside, Reese, 19, a sophomore and football player at Sacramento State, and my youngest, Kathleen, 17, a senior in High School. Oh boy---a college tuition double team! At least the economy is good right now. (I'm trying to laugh)
Although I have lived in Petaluma for a number of years, I will always consider myself a coastside guy--and when driving down highway 1 the memories come back. Until about 10 years ago, from the highway I could still see the remnants of an old tree fort I built with Sam Clemmons near the airport in Moss Beach.
Gone now, like a lot of other things---shoulda used galvanized nails.
