Rick's Story

Life Well, Hi, old LHS Friend, I thought you were dead. I've had a great and sometimes not so great 40 plus years since I left dear ole' Lawton Senior High School, Home of the Champions and the mighty fighting Wolverines. If you still have a 1968 Lore yearbook, I married the good looking blond who is directly behind me on page 12. We have one daughter, Mary Kathleen. She is now Dr. Mary Phd and a Psychologist. She married Kevin Helgert and he guards the Pres and VP and First Lady. He is a Secret Service Agent. But, of course, I only have a granddog and NO GRANDCHILDREN. I'm frustrated and I want my grandchildren, but school and jobs have taken presidence. I'm still married to that blond girl on page 12, (Donna class of "68 EHS!!!!) and we now live in Dallas, Texas. Been a Texan for more than 25 years and proud of it. After LHS, Donna and I went to Cameron U. for four years. Got married a week after graduation in '72. I went to teaching English at Eisenhower for a decade. Was the yearbook and newspaper sponsor. Then went to Cameron as the Director of Publication. Left Cameron and bought Taylor Publishiing Company in Amarillo, Texas. That's were Mary grew up and graduated from Amarillo High School. Lived there for 13 years and prospered...lots of money and lots of stress...had back surgery, a heart attack and lost my business all i...Expand for more
n one month. Doctor told me I had to give up stress and go back and do what I loved doing. The only thing I ever loved doing was teaching high school students. So, that's were I am now, I just a plan old teacher at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas. I love my job and I love my high school students. The school was built the same year as LHS and it looks a lot like LHS and our colors are RED and WHITE, so, I really feel like I'm still a student but with a much more comfortable chair. I have a lot to brag about but I hate people who brag. I'm the luckiest guy from the class of 1968 cause I'm happy as a clam. Love to hear from you, if you remember me. I'm a big emailer (even have a MySpace but not much there...it impresses my kids at school!) I collect old Disney Toys from the 1920's and 1930's and I have one of the largest collections in the country; thus my e mail address: OldDisney sbcglobal.net. My beard is now white, but for some reason my hair is still there and it is brown? I'm pricing some Hoverrounds or scooters (not a motorbike) as I have diabetes and I'm not going to be able to walk much longer. It has to have a great chair 'cause I weight a WHOLE LOT MORE than in high school. Hope you've had as wonderful a life as I think that I have had. I plan on making the 40 and 50th reunions and look forward to hearing from you. Rick
