Rick's Story
After high school I attended Florida Keys Community College from 1972-1974. I met Sue Peper from Coral Shores High School and we began dating. Sue and I graduated from FKCC in 1974 and we were married on June 29th. Our first apartment was in Boca Raton where I attended Florida Atlantic Univeristy from 1974-1976 when I received my Bachelor's of Arts in Education. Sue worked while I attended school. That year I was hired to teach in Glades County, FL. at Moore Haven Jr. Sr. High School. Sue went back to school and received her degree from FAU in 1978 and worked for one year in Moore Haven. A series of events meant a move to Gilchrist County, FL. where both of us taught Social Studies at Bell High School. In June 1980 our first son, Jonathan Christopher was born. He was born with a cleft-lip and palate and required many surgeries but God blessed him and us. Our second son, Stephen was born in 1983. In 1988 I left Bell High School to help start a Christian school in Gilchrist County. I had worked to get my Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision and was hired to be the Administator. I stayed at the christian school unti 1993 when I went back to work for the Gilchrist County Sc...Expand for more
hool system. In 2000 I was hired as an assistant principal at Bell Elementary School and worked until 2005 when I was tranferred to Bell High School as an assistant principal but moved back to Bell Elementary in March of 2006 and was named Principal. I did run and win a city commissioner seat in Moore Haven and ran for Superintendent of Schools in Gilchrist County in 2004 but lost by 499 votes. Jonathan was married in June of 2004 and Sue and I became Grandparents in January 2008. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2001 in Zoology and again in 2007 with a Doctorate in Pharmarcy. Stephen is in the U. S. Army and is an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) technician. He just arrived back in the US from a stint in Iraq. God answered our prayers to keep him safe. Pray for our troops always. I have three more years to work before I am eligible to retire but will work longer because we are building a log home in North Carolina for retirement. In July of 2008 I was named Principal of Bell High School, the school I began teaching at in 29 years ago. It has been a very humbling experience and I work with a fantastic group of people including students I formally taught in high school.
