Rick's Story
Well - here it is May, 2008. Many miles traveled - mentally, emotionally, spritually and physically.
I'm about to hit age 54 in a few weeks and I find myself living in Bethel CT. with my wife Shereen and our two dogs, Sasha and Smoochie (no - we did not give them their names), selling homes with Coldwell Banker and having the best time of my life.
My two kids, Richard and Melanie, are grown and living productive lives. While this sounds cliche, my wife is my best friend and other than the fact that I'm seriously overweight, I'm in pretty good health.
I still play piano every day. Until about 2 years ago I had never stopped playing in a series of semi-pro bands that started in 1971 with DOA which was comprised of Hen Hud-ians, Marty DiCola, Patti Turner, John Wessels, Gary Morello, Bob Clancy and Sal Tavano.
Most recently I played for about 6 years in a 9-piece funk/R&B band called Jigsaww with a bunch of guys and girls from Ossining, CT and Brooklyn. We had a great run, including playing for several years at the Peekskill Celebration and even as the opening a...Expand for more
ct for Blood Sweat and Tears at the Paramount Theater. We mostly played in and around the city. We even played at The World's Greatest Bar on top of the WTC just a few months before the attacks on 9/11.
I finally "retired" on New Year's Eve about 2 years ago. We played outdoors at midnight for the City of White Plains. I thought I was going to have to have my fingers amputated it was so cold. When I was carrying my gear home at 2:00 in the morning -freezing to death, I decided that if someone wants to still play Rock and Roll in their 50s - they need a roadie.
Wife, kids, dogs, music, business. I guess that covers most of it.
