Rick's Story
Life
Married Janet Smith in 1969, had two children; Sherri in 1970 and Barry in 1973. Both kids graduated from college and have their own homes. I graduated magna cum laude from WVU in 1972 with an accounting degree and obtained my CPA in 1974. Relocated to Baltimore after college and worked their for 29 years. Started in public accounting (8 yrs) out of college, then Blue Cross (12 yrs), then several healthcare organizations (6 yrs) and consulted for last 3 years in Baltimore.
After kids finished college, Janet & I headed south on June 1st, 2001. Spent first 5 months on Amelia Island in Florida at a friend's house touring the state (looking for our final home), going to the beach & drinking margaritas. g golf a lot! We rented an oceanfront house at Fernandina Beach for a year. It was the same house Edie Falco stayed at when they filmed the movie "Sunshine State." We then moved 6 blocks north and rented the top floor of a duplex for a lot less money. It's also oceanfront and we are trying to buy this house.
I had been doing some consulting work for a local bank and for a friend of mine. Because of various reasons, I found it difficult to find a job close to our home. Consequently, I went into business for myself. I work full time as a mortgage broker and part time as a business consultant. I also buy used golf balls to "stripe" into range balls and sell them to the local golf courses. To say the least, Janet & I are loving it down here; no snow and shorts year round. She goes to the beach every chance she gets and I play golf about 1.5 miles up the road!!
