Two weeks after graduation in June 1967, I was in basic training at Fort Knox, KY. I had turned-down a scholarship to college and enlisted in the Army prior to graduation. After three years in the army, with a 14-month tour of duty in Germany and 13+ months in Viet Nam, I decided it was time to go to college. I graduated from Michigan State University (Go Spartans) in March 1974 with a B.S. in Engineering and accepted a position with a large engineering firm in Chicago. For the next several years, I worked on many very interesting and challenging projects and traveled throughout the U.S. I eventually worked my way up the corporate ladder, became a manager and then a vice president. Somehow in my spare time I managed to get my MBA. With more responsibilities came larger and more complex projects, more traveling and or course more stress. By 1998 I had worked on projects in 27 different states and traveled to 49 of the 50 U.S. states and several foreign countries. In 2008, at the age of 59, I decided it was time to retire.
