Rick's Story

Joined the Navy and began Boot Camp on my 18th birthday. Joined the USS Portland in 1973 off the coast of Sardinia. Left the Portland in Sep of "76" while at Naples, Italy. Had a 7 year break in service and entered the PA National Guard where I recently retired as an Active Duty (AGR) soldier, completing 29 y...Expand for more
ears total service, 24 active. Currently employed helping the greatest men and women of our country at the Lebanon VA Hospital in PA. Glad I was able to find the Portland in port at Little Creek in the 90's and given permission to bring my family aboard the ship and let them see a glimise of my history there.
