Christine's Story
After high school, I went to work with the phone company. Although I went to Pierce at night, I only took a few classes. I got married in 1963 and had my daughter a year later.
After working as a Directory Assistance Operator for a year and in the Operator Services Southern California Administration area for several, I eventually finished up my career with a total of 32 years and statewide responsibiities, which took me all over the state and country.
In the months following the January, 1994 Northridge earthquake, I was very busy at work and trying to rebuild a condo and a home, I decided to retire from the phone company. I took about a year off to work on the "rebuilds", then started doing volunteer work (San Fernando Valley Literacy Foundation, Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Clinic, Amanda Foundation, Los Angeles County Emergency Preparedness). Also took a few classes, two of which were classes about Private Investigations. Eventually, I badgered my instructor until he hired me. Worked parttime for a while, then worked full time. Currently work parttime again, for the attorney who bought out the business I started with after my classes. The office is in Woodland Hill...Expand for more
s and I work from my home in Bakersfield. Most of my work is done on the computer. I occasionally go to the SF Valley and visit the office. While working for the attorney, I bacame a Notary Public and a Registered Process Server and pursued both of those endeavors on my days off.
I sold my Northridge condo around 1996 or 7 and sold the Granada Hills home in 2006. My daughter had just returned to school when her youngest son had entered kindergarten in 2006 and I wanted to move closer so I could be of more help. Since I was single and unattached by then, it seemed like the right time.
My husband and I had separated when my daughter was 11, but we remained friends. I eventually introduced him to a friend at the phone company and when they wanted to marry, we were divorced in late 1994. I lived with David (Sandy) Cate for twelve years until he passed away in 2000 and have been totally single since.
Have not "officially" attended any of the reunions, but have made "flash" appearances at a few of them and some of the mini reunions. Many of you have improved with age, and, although I still have a great sense of humor (especially about myself) I've gotten rounder and simply aged.
