Christine McElwain:  

After high school, I went to work with the phone company. Although I went to Pierce at night, I only took a few classes. I got married in 1963 and had my daughter a year later. After working as a Directory Assistance Operator for a year and in the Operator Services Southern California Administration area for several, I eventually finished up my career with a total of 32 years and statewide responsibiities, which took me all over the state and country. In the months following the January, 1994 Northridge earthquake, I was very busy at work and trying to rebuild a condo and a home, I decided to retire from the phone company. I took about a year off to work on the "rebuilds", then started doing volunteer work (San Fernando Valley Literacy Foundation, Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Clinic, Amanda Foundation, Los Angeles County Emergency Preparedness). Also took a few classes, two of which were classes about Private Investigations. Eventually, I badgered my instructor until he hired me. Worked parttime for a while, then worked full time.
