Rise's Story

Hi everyone! Just a profile update. ( 2021) , I graduated as an RN from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1977. and have worked in the Operating Room, as well as PACU,GI Lab, Pre-op, ER, Telemetry, and Home Care, I continue to work in Ambulatory Surgery, not ready to retire, .yet ,anyway ! I was off 2 1/2 months due to Covid 19 last year like many other people. Luckily, my employer paid 70% of my salary. I was bored out of my mind. However in July, my employer informed us that our surgery center was going out of business. I had worked there 20+ years. I had to find another job at my "tender" age. Through networking with old employees, I found another job in Ambulatory Surgery. I lived in Atlanta in 1977-1980,and then moved to Miami, FL. where I met my husband in 1980. We married on 3/28/81. We moved back to Milw. in 1982,which afforded me the opportunity to get my BSN at Alverno's weekend Nursing program. Chris went to MATC to get his AS degree in Respiratory Therapy at the same time . We both graduated in 1984, and moved back to FL, leaving behind the fond (not!) memories of -32degree winters (-60 degrees with the wind chill factor !) Our 1st daughter, Gena, was born in 1986, and our 2nd daughter, Cari, in 1991. Our oldest finished 2 yrs. of college ,then announced she was quitting school to move to California to live her dreams ! She moved to Oceanside, CA, (that was at age 19), then Newport Beach, and Costa Mesa, CA. After many sales and marketing jobs, and 3 boyfriends ...Expand for more
later, at 35, she now lives back here in Jacksonville, FL. working for a new auto financing company as a sales/ marketer. I believe she will stay put this time, and has a new boyfriend who is committed to staying in Jacksonville. She knew him in Elementary school of all things! She now realizes family becomes more important the older you get. Our youngest graduated from Univ. N FL with a double major in Spanish and International Studies. She lived in Santander, Spain for 2 months to do her required overseas studies. I think she would love to live in Spain, but doesn't want to go unless we go too. She works in a used bookstore in downtown Jacksonville, researching pricing for antique/1st edition books/music albums, and in-house and on line sales. She lives with her boyfriend and their Chow fur baby, Taro, my grand dog... My other grand dog is Lincoln, an almost 2 yr old long-hair Dachshund. We have my mom's labradoodle Ginger, now 13 + yrs old, and Lily, our 7 yr old part Chow/German Short-haired Pointer. My mom died 10/2011. We took care of her with hospice care help here at our home. Chris still works part time doing sleep studies, and is a lead guitarist in a local band called the Rashon Medlock Band. Give them a listen on Spotify . They do all original songs. The 50th Hamilton High School Reunion is scheduled to happen June 26th this year at Jackson Park. Not sure if I will be going yet, but look for further details on Facebook . Please stay well, and get Vaccinated for Covid.19 !
