Rita's Story

Life What happened after graduating from Madison HS? Since I worked my way through college...and since I wasn't sure about what I wanted to do...It took me 6 years to get my BS. I went to George Mason, NVCC and then finally graduated from JMU in Speech Pathology. I went on to Penn State for my Masters in Speech Pathology and then spent the next 20 years as a speech-language pathologist in New Mexico, D.C. and in VA. It was great working with people in public schools, clinics and long-term care facilities. Later, while working as an assistant professor of Speech-Language Pathology at Longwood College, I completed my Ph.D. at UVA in Instructional Technology. After finishing my Ph.D., I became an international consultant in Instructional Technology and Distance Education. My clients included the Partnership for Peace Information Management System (Department of Defense), the International Women's Media Foundation, the University of Virginia, and others. I traveled a lot for my work mostly to former Soviet Union republics in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Current Occupa...Expand for more
tion: Currently, I am working in the Loudoun County Public Schools as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I also teach for the University of Phoenix On-Line, Longwood University and George Washington University. My family My husband, Norman “Larry” Robertson is my youngest brother's best friend. I met him in my parents' living room while he was playing Atari with my brother. He was 14, I was 22. We didn't start dating until he was past puberty.... We are very close to our families and feel blessed that they are all doing well. Since everyone is in the area, we are able to get together frequently. My Pets We have only furry children both dogs and cats. We have 2 dogs an Ayredale Terrier, Maggie, and a Golden Retriever mix, Pudge. We have 5 cats, Bopper (named for the Hale Bop comet, aka Binky), Waldo, Chloe, Frannie and Sanford. Sanford was rescued after being abandoned in a dump. All of the rest of his litter perished. Frannie was a rescued feral kitten. She was named for St. Francis of Assisi so that every time we say her name it is a prayer that she gets tamer.
