Rob's Story
Life
Ran track at Gunderson High, and then graduated from Gunderson High in 85. I managed stores for Athletic Xpress/Foot Locker till 86.
Went to Cal Baptist in 86. Studied Sociology/SW. Started coordinating volunteer programs for the school and the juvenile probation dept. in 86. I worked at a great small residential agency while in college.
I moved to SF as the missionary director of the Baptist Community Center in 92. I was asked to manage a group home of hard core gang related youth while in SF. I found the body of a young man after he had committed suicide. Nothing can prepare you for that. That experience side tracked me for a while.
I then helped start a home for abused girls in 97. Then moved back to Riverside in 97.Worked as a day treatment counselor/mental health worker and probation investigator in Riverside and Santa Ana from 97 - 2000. Its strange, but working with severally abused and neglected children was the most therapeutic experience of my life.
I returned to the girls home as the administrator, and then later Program Director of three homes from 2000-2003. The County recruited me to run a County Children's Shelter here in the...Expand for more
East Bay Area in June 2003. As of 2008, Im still working as the Administrator of the emergency childrens shelter. There have been plenty of ups and downs these past several years, but God has been with me and blessed me through all of it. For the first time, I am honestly happy with who I am, where I am in life and where I'm going. God is good!
College
I was much more involved with college than High School. I coordinated student lead ministries, Served three summers as a student missionary, two years as an RA/Senior RA and one year as Assoc. BSU Dir. I also founded the Beh. Science Club, and studied/traveled as a student in China.
Workplace
I started as an athletic sales clerk in 1983. I was managing my own store by 85. I helped start student lead volunteer programs for the Riverside County Probation Dept in 1986. Since 1986, in the field of Social Work, I have worked as a group home counselor, facility manager, day treatment worker, mental health worker, missionary director of a SF inner city community center, group home administrator, PART / Pro-ACT instructor, program director and now supervisor of an RCL 12 emergency county children's shelter.
