Rob's Story
Life
I sort of drifted around for a few years, working in the Roosevelt Field car wash for a while, while playing in various local blues bands in the Hempstead area.
In 1976, I met the love of my life (at a gig - the Holiday Cafe (near the Bayville Bridge), and we were married in October, 1978. 40 years and counting.
Moved to Orange, NJ in 1978, to Syracuse in 1980, and to Chittenango in 1986. Worked as a locksmith from about '78-'85, then got into computer programming. I kept up the music until 1997, when a neck injury pretty much forced me to stop. Main interests are photography, Yankees baseball (although I rooted for the Cubs this postseason), reading history, and playing with my PCs.
My "then" photo was taken at a club called The Ritz (!) in 1974. It was in West Hempstead or thereabouts. The "now" photo is from last...Expand for more
winter, after I decided to start playing music again. Of course, life got in the way, as it is wont to do. I developed a herniated disc (L2, for anyone who is familiar with back problems) which gave me unshirted hell for several weeks, and which finally resulted in surgery in April. The good news is that I have dropped three pants sizes - from a 44 waist to a 38!
Update: It's now August 2019, and I have been meeting up with musicians I played with 15-20 years ago. Blues jams Sunday nights at the Valley Blues House, and benefit gigs with the Shemp-Dells. Just like old times.
Update 8/30: After years of resisting, I now have a Facebook account. I use it to keep track of local musical happenings: (Classmates won't show the full web address.) Search for "Rob Griffiths Chittenango".
