Rob's Story
Life after BCHS. Did radio and TV news; taught college; still write books...seventeen, at last count.
My latest novel, Black Force, is the ninth in the Old Spy Thriller series, It is available in the Amazon Kindle Store. The book follows Tradecraft and The Crusade (A Novel of Politics and Hate) which examined the rise of white supremacy in the US and Britain. The Cold Case of Father Brendan is a murder mystery set in Ireland during "the Troubles.," There are seven earlier books in my Old Spy Thriller series. They include The Old Spy, A Summer of Deception, Who Iced Fat Pauli, A Legion of Martyrs, Drone, Hacked and Sisters of the Sword. (They are part of the new wave, just an e-book. No paper, no ink, just cyberspace.) Thus endeth the shameless self-promotion.
It doesn't feel like more than five decades have passed since Bear Creek, nor do I feel like the old geezer my former students said I was. I started working in local radio and TV news the week after BCHS graduation in 1967. During nearly 25 years as a CBS News Correspondent (and 32 years in the broadcast news business). I worked in 39 countries and...Expand for more
48 states. I retired in 1998. But it seems I flunked retirement.
For the next thirteen years I taught journalism at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida and am the author of seven non-fiction books that preceded my ten novels -- including two coffee table books on golf courses, a travel guide called "Golfing in Ireland" and two college-level textbooks for journalism students titled "Covering Government" and "Covering Politics."
So now I've retired again and am enjoying it...and playing lots of golf. And, of course, I'm toying with my next book project.
My wife (who loves to golf as much as I do) and I divide our time between our home in St. Augustine, Florida, and our home in Asheville, North Carolina. The golf in both places is wonderful. I also love to hear from my old BCHS classmates through email or Facebook. Our 50-year reunion in 2017 was simply sensational...so many wonderful old friends. Anybody think we'll make 70?
I've had some great e-mail and Facebook exchanges with former classmates, and I'd love to hear from any old friends who might care to drop a line or send a friend request.
