Robert's Story

After leaving High School I owned and operated various businesses. I owned a bar in downtown Richmond in the mid 60s and one in San Pablo in the late 60s and early 70s. During the 80s I owned bars in Alameda, Vallejo, Oakland and the last on in Emeryville until the end of 1988. While in the bar business I owned some trucking and warehousing companies, a construction company, a fairly large vending company and a private investigation company. Sounds confusing but I found operating multiple business interests fairly simple and allowed for continuing revenue when one or the other was having problems. After 1988 I changed my business interest focusing on labor leasing, insurance and real estate until recently. Mid 2008 I started to focus more on real estate holdings hoping to rent the multiple commercial and residential properties I have ended up owning. I still own a small construction company but attempt to limit the activity of the company to the upkeep of my own properties. I am primarily based in upstate NY but own a home in Costa Mesa CA. I have and do travel in relation to business interests in the countries of Greece, Spain, Poland and the United Kingdom. I have been fortunate to have lived for periods of time in London which I enjoyed. I often tell people that London and San Francisco are similar in many ways. I'm married to a wonderful, intelligent and caring woman. I have 3 children, a daughter who is 40 years old living in Vallejo, a son 43 living in the Sacramento area and a 38 year old son living in upstate NY. I have 7 grand children, 2 boys and 5 girls ranging in age from 16 to 6 months. Whenever I get to Northern CA I drive through Richmond making sure to drive past my folk¿s old house in so. Richmond, go past Nichols Park and remember Moo's Ice Cream w...Expand for more
here I worked off and on for several years. My next birthday I will be 68 years old and I can't believe the years have past so rapidly. Presently I am attempting to learn formal Spanish (wish I would have paid attention at Ells, I took 2 years of Spanish), trying to play the guitar and am contemplating building a new house. I always wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I play golf to relax and think. I've had many pets over the years, dogs, cats and horses. Presently I have 3 cats, a great choclate lab, a fantastic paint horse and 19 koi fish. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel it and add on a indoor swimming pool. My dream home would be somewhere in California and not in New York where I built a 16,000 sq. ft. 28 room house.. My best friend would tell you I'm easy going, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as hard to get to know. I still have my Lloyd's Insurance Broker Certificate, my 32 Degree Masonic document, my Shriner's Clown School Diploma and my King Carlos V Knighthood Certification hanging in my office. All memories of events and places in my past. I recently re-connected with Howard Young, his Dad owned a market around 4th and McDonald, I worked there for awhile with Howard and learned some things that I have used for all my life since. Little things like how to bone a chicken and why I never wanted to get near a animal kidney after cleaning them at the market. My emails with Howard brought back a lot of fond memories from Harry Ells High School and all it meant to me at the time and since, melancholy I guess. There is a lot more. I've only talked about the positive stuff but I'm even starting to bore myself so now I will stop.
