Robert B's Story

Now it's Nov 2015 and I have my first greatgrandson, Harrison Gordon, son Ken's grandson. We are very happily settled in our retirement home here in Homewood's Willow Ponds in Frederick, MD. On August 23, 2015 See last entry below. Below updated 5/28/2014 I am 80 now. We are downsizing from our 4 BR 2 story 2 Car garage home to a retirement community (Homewood Farms) renting a single story 2 BR 2 car garage here in Frederick, MD. The move is planned sometime in September - October this year. Getting rid of 44 years of stuff accumulated in this house. Sold model trains layout, some guns, and a stairlift we installed for Kay's Mother in 2006. Plan to have an aution for what is left after we move and then donate the rest. So we are busy gettng ready for the last move, we hope, while we are both still healthy. Below Revised April 19, 2011 I am 77 years old, Retired from Orbital Space Systems in 1999, Retired from US Department of Energy 1986, Resigned Major Commission USAF in 1970. Graduated AFIT 1963, Graduated USNA 1957, Attended Kemper Military School 1952-3, Graduated Lockwood High School 1952. Married in 1957 for 54+ years, 4 Children, 7 Grandchildren. Hobbies include: Model trains, RC model sail & power boats, home repairs, home security, and computers. Too old & too bad for golf now. Wife play golf every week. Life Member of: U S Naval Academy Alumni Assn., American Legion, Knight of Columbus, Tau Beta Pi. Regular member of the NRA. Career in Space Nuclear Power, Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators which were flown on Voyager I & II, Galileo and Cassini missions of NASA, all deep space missions. Retired completely and finally in Frederick, MD. Below Revised 8/7/2006 for 50 th reunion of the USNA Class of 1957. ROBERT BRONAUGH MORROW, JR "Bob and Kay" 212 Baughmans Lane Frederick, MD 21702 Children: Kenneth Robert (1958), Gregory Keith (1959), Virginia Kay (1961), Amy Lynne (1965) Kay surprised me during our graduation June Week in 1957 with the news that we were getting married next month. We did, July 20th. In September we went to Dayton, Ohio for my basic civil engineering training for the Air Force, then to Craig AFB, Selma, AL., as Assistant Chief Engineer of the Engineering Section and Capehart Family Housing Project Engineer. Two years and one son (Ken) later, with another son on the way, I was on my way for a one-year remote tour at TUSLOG Det 8, Diyabirkir, Turkey with the Air Force Security Service as Base Engineer. In 1960, I was back in the US with our second son (Greg) at the Security Service HQ as a utilities engineer taking part in command inspection visits to Frankfort & Hof, Germany, and Elmendorf AFB, Northeast Cape, and Shemya, Alaska. Before leaving HQ Security Service our first daughter (Ginnie) arrived. After obtaining a MS in nuclear engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in 1963 and being elected to Tau Beta Pi, I started my research career in the Air Force Aero Propulsion Laboratory (AFAPL) on Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. While at W-P AFB our second daughter (Amy) arrived just in time to relieve me of my duty as tour guide for the summer visit of the Air Force Academy cadets. power projects at the AF APL and was selected in 1966 for an assignment with the US Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) located at Germantown, MD. It was such an interesting job that I resigned from the Air Force, effective in 1970, to become the AEC Manager of the Multi Hundred Watt Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (MHW-RTG) Program. These space nuclear electrical power sources were flown on the DOD's LES 8 & 9 and NASA's Voyager I & II spacecraft in 1976 and 1977, and are still generating power today. After raising and educating four outstanding children (a lawyer, a doctor, a social worker, and a teacher), working 23 years in space nuclear power, and serving 33 years in federal service, I retired on May 31, 1986 from the US Department of Energy. I became bored after about four months and decided to try car sales, which lasted a little over two years. A former boss in AEC wanted me to go to work for him in the area of space nuclear power project management, I could not refuse his offer. Orbital Space Systems was my new employer. While at Orbital I was involved in the development of the space nuclear electrical power sources for NASA's Cassini spacecraft. I retired for keeps after about ten years with Orbital (Age 65). Since retirement I played more golf, not better, but more. I have taken up radio control model sail boating, battery powered boating, and model air plane flying. I have built 68 ship and airplane models which are hanging or displayed in the computer and game rooms. Home repair keeps me occupied as well. We have been to Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Grand Canyon, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, and Canadian Rockies. On many of these US trips we drag along golf clubs and play several times during the visit. We will continue to travel as long as we are healthy and retirement money lasts. We now have seven grandchildren, Lauren & Emily (Ken's girls), Lindsey, Morgan & Nicholas (Greg's kids), Christopher (Ginnie's son) and Abby (Amy's daughter). Below revised August 23, 2015 On September 25, 2014 Kay and I downsized from our 4 bedroom 2 story to our retirement community 2 bedroom single story duplex in Homewood at Willow Poods in Frederick, MD, just four miles north of our former home. The address is 100 Homewood Lane, Frederick, MD 21702-3381, just off US 15, if you care to give us a call, 301-304-5415, and come visit sometime, please do! We sold the stair lift, the n-gage model trains, snow blower, one bedroon set; gave away computer desks, easy chairs, sofa and had a garage sale for two days. It was a big job getting rid of 44 years of stuff in the former house. The move went well, we were able to get both cars in the new garage on the first night in the new home! Now we are well settled in and love our new digs. The former house sale was final closed on July 30, 2015 after being listed for almost ten months. With some of the receipts of the house sale Kay now has a new Subaru Preza sedan which replaced her loved 1996 Honda Accord. In September 2015 we are told we will become greatgrandparents, Laren Gordon, our older granddaughter is expecting a son. The whole family is so excited! We are well and Blessed, thanks to God!
