Robert's Story
I always wanted to be a soldier when I grew up. Some of my family and friends thought that was a great idea. However some thought that I was crazy and said I would not make it. Simply because I had reconstructive surgery on my left knee on April and had to report for duty on July 21st.
As it turned out, some were right and some were wrong. I retired from the military in 2003 and if I had to do it all over again I would do it with no questions asked.
Many have asked me why did I join and fight in the military. My answer to them was simple. I joined and fought so that you would not have too.
During my tenure in the military I lost some friends. This is why my "DRILL" told me while going through basic, keep your friends to a minim...Expand for more
um, so this way it will not be hard having to loose them.
That was a very hard thing to do. Though I had a lot of associates in the military I only had three buddies that I would have died for.
Looking back at my earlier years I was always cut out for the military. I can remember myself as a child walking around the house playing cowboys and Indians. Always wanting to see army movies.
My dad, uncles and brothers served in the military, so I was only destined to serve as well. I accomplished a whole lot during my tenure. I was able to reach the rank of E-8 or Master Sergeant and I was selected to serve on General Collin Powell's secuity task force. Along with Daddy Bush and the "Honorable Reagan".
I guess that's it for now.
