Robert's Story

To start with I've been married to Marianne since February, 1971.Marianne is the Payroll Manager of A.O. Smith Corp. I sure was Blessed to marry her and to have the family I have including our dog PJ. We have 2 sons, Bob 37, who is a pilot living in Northern, Ca. He is married and has one daughter, Danika, who is just beautiful. People say she looks like me. Lucky girl!! Danika was born on Marianne's and my Wedding Anniversay. They just had a son, Cody Robert, born December 31, 2009. We haven't had a chance to see him yet. Can't wait. It's so hard to see them a lot living so far a way. Bobby and Danika came home for my birthday last weekend, which was between February 5 through the 8, 2010. What a great surprise. I couldn't have had a better birthday.Bob was All Everything in football as a running back wearing the same number I had,21. He, also, was All Conference, in Baseball, for 2 years. I was the hitting coach while he played. Now I know how he made All Conference twice.Guess it runs in the family. Our other son David is married and has a Step-Son, Brett, who we consider our real Grand Son.They live in East Troy. He is a Bar and Restaurant Manager in Mukwonago. David, also, played football at New Berlin West High School. He was a defensive end and center. His Senior year he had 10 1/2 sacks and made All Conference. He and Bob were both excellent punters. I was in Banking for over 20 years with 14 years as a Credit Union President. I did a lot of Marketing and Advertising on my job writing and being in TV commercials for the Credit Unions and for Budget Rent A Car. I had a good friend at Budget and he had me do all his commercials. We did a lot of commercials on radio, too.I got invited to all the TV and Radio stations, that we advertised on, Christmas and other parties. That was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed and miss my job and the money.I am very political and VERY CONSERVATIVE. I helped run President Reagan's Campaign in my Congressional District in 1984. In fact, I met and had my picture taken with President Reagan. What a thrill for me. I was the Districts Vice Chairman and then becoming the Chairman. I have met some very interesting people. In 1984 I was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention in Dallas. That was great. I even found time to be Campaign Manager for a friend running for the Assembly. He won by about 70%.I was in charge of Security and Motorcades many times during the Presidential Campaign. I got to go where I wanted during the events and the Secret Service couldn't stop Me.I had to wear a pin on my lapel, though, so they knew I was with the Rep. Party..While working with the Motorcades I drove Vice President Bush's Doctor and another time his Press Scretary. It was so interesting talking and working with all those people.I talked to the Agents who drove behind the Presidents or Vice Presidents car. They would sit in back of this Suburban with their machine guns and other weapons. We would see all these police on top of the buildings across the street. There is a lot of preparation getting ready for these events but it was really fun.I, also, met and had my picture taken with Dick Cheney. He and Bart Starr were speaking at this event. Bart Starr was sitting in front of me so I got to talk with him for awhile. He is such a nice man. Those were the good days.Recently I wrote some satirical political articles for a friend of mine who runs a small town newspaper in Texas. I love to write satire and of course politically. Now I'm on Disabity with having many surgeries and Illness's. Most of the surgeries were from football and lifting weights. I lifted weights a lot in college and lifted 6 days a week until I couldn't handle it anymore. That was in the 1990's. I had back surgery in 2008 leaving me with 50% nerve damage to my right quad(Thigh). I was walking with a walker until a few months ago. Now I can't walk stairs very well or walk long distances. I had my second back operation in 2009 and that went well. THe Doctor told me I have something wrong with each vertebre in my back and neck. My discs are like dust instead of gel. In 2005 I had Quadruple By Pass surgery and now I have Bone Marrow Cancer which is in remission but not curable. Almost everyday I think about when will the cancer return or if something hurts or I don't feel well is it the cancer. I had a Bone Marrow Transplant in December of 2008 and was in the hospital for 19 days. I only had 15 minutes of Chemo but still lost all my hair. My hair is all back now with just a few gray hairs from the transplant. I'm so glad it grew back but it sure grew back slowly. I got through the cancer and transplant thanks to my faith in Jesus Christ. Without Jesus and my family I don't know how I would have made it. I don't know what more to say except I really miss high school and college and all the friendships, sports and all the good times. I'm really having a problem getting old.I am not growing old gracefully. To me, when people say you're only as old as you feel that's not the right thing to say to me. I've seen 90 year olds get around better than me. I think I'm kidding. If only they would say you're only as old as you think or act I'd be a...Expand for more
lot younger. The only other thing I can think of is that after high school I wanted to work for the FBI or become a Police Officer. If I was to become a FBI Agent I would have needed an Accounting degree and I couldn't see myself taking all those boring accounting courses. Instead I took all those boring business courses. In 1970 I passed the written exam for the Chicago Police Department but couldn't get past the physical. Well that's it. While in Junior College, in Kansas, I made all League, in football as a Half back, Safety and Punter. In baseball, I made all league as a Shortstop. I lead the league, in hitting, with a .456 batting average. Wish I could do some of that now. I would like to hear from some of you and find out what you've been doing these last 40 some years. 10/19/2010 About 6 weeks ago my Multiple Myeloma (Bone Marrow Cancer) came back. 3 weeks ago I was in the hospital for 4 days 22 hours of strong chemo. I have to go back next week for the same 4 days of chemo. I feel really good but just the knowing that the cancer is back is scary.I'd appreciate prayer from all of you believers. Thank you. 6/12/2012 I am still in remission from my cancer but worry about it a lot because I know it will be coming back. It's incurable but my faith in Jesus keeps me going. I am now writing a weekly blog for the wisconsinconservative. I'm really enjoying it and it keeps me busy. Friends from Custer that I still have contact with are Al Garske. He and I go to most of the afternoon Brewer games. I'm also in contact with Lynn Pomazal, Roger Baker, Frank Liska and Tom Cooper. As of August, 2012 I'm still in remission of the cancer I have. I have been working out again. Lifting light weights and riding the recumbent bike. I am now doing Political and Marketing Consulting work. Have some clients but not that many. 12/18/2012 I am now writing a blog for the Wisconsin Conservative. If anyone is interested you can go to thewisconsinconservative.com to read my articles. If you're not conservative I'm sure you won't enjoy them. I love doing these. 2/18/2015 It doesn't look like the class of 1965 will have a 50th reunion this year. That's too bad. Fifty years should have one. It would be nice to see how everyone looks and what they've been doing for the last 25 years since our last reunion. I know some arte too busy to handle this but others could get involved and start this.. I went to Rufus King for one semester, as a Freshman, to play football, and they invited me to their 50th reunion. Where are the officer of the January class. John Hackbarth is dead: no one knows where Mark Reuter is so that leave Mrs. Bonnie Probelski (Bush) and Sue Werner. I would work on this if I had a lot of help. If anyone is interested in helping me . I live in Pewaukee but as soon as my wife retires I think we're going to move to Eastern Tennessee. My Multiple Myeloma (Bone Marrow Cancer) is still in remission but I have so many orthopedic problems from playing football at Custer and in college. I can't leave my email or phone number because Classmates doesn't allow this but send me a message and I'll give you them. Would like to know how everyone is. 2/26/2015 Tomorrow, February 27, my wife, Marianne and I will be celebrating our 44 th Wedding anniversary. We only dated for 6 month before we got married. Twenty months later our 1st son, Bob was born and 14 months later our 2nd son, Dave was born. The times sure go by fast: too fast. 11/16/2015 My wife, our dog and I moved to Northeast Tennessee on October 3. We bought a nice condo here .I had to get away from the Wisconsin winters. Each year has become worse. That's what happens when you get old. Never thought I'd get this old so fast. The first week, here, in Tennessee, I got sick and was in bed for 3 days with a temperature of 102. Finally on the 3rd day my wife took me to the hospital where they admitted me for 3 days with pneumonia. The last time I had pneumonia I was 20 years old and played basketball with it and went to NYC. Not this time. Last week, we saw my son, who is a pilot and lives in California. He was in Nashville for the night before flying to Belize the next day. We met him in Knoxville and was a real nice time .My wife retired, after 27 years as Manager of Payroll at AO Smith. The city has 50000 people in it and I have a hard time finding places. I never had any problems finding places anywhere else I went. I wish we would have had a 50th reunion. A class the size of 1965 should have had one. I said I'd help if someone else wanted to help me but no one offered. I was invited to Rufus King's 50th. I only went there as a Freshman to play football but still was invited. No more football for me. With 2 back, 6 knee, 2 shoulders and other orthopedic operations I feel good when I can get out of bed. My Multiple Myeloma (Bone Marrow Cancer) is still in remission. The hardest thing here is finding good doctors. I had excellent ones in the Milwaukee area. I will keep my Oncologist, at Froedtert, and go to see him every 6 months. Thought I'd give an update to whoever cares. My oldest son is a Pilot working for Virgin America. He really loves his job. He flies a lot to Maui and NYC.

Hannity, again, had his nose where it shouldn't have been. He deserves it though.
