Robert's Story

Life My life has definitely not followed a straight-line path. I spent a number of years at George Washgington University pursuing a Ph.D. in American Cultural History. Ran out of money and patience and took a job as a flight attendant for Eastern Air Lines. Four years later, I was president of the union that represented EAL's flight attendants. I did this for most of the next 10 years, sitting on EAL's board of directors, working as a delegate to the AFL-CIO along with the International Transit Union. I was an international VP and board member of the Transport Workers Union and in general spent my 30's and 40's negotiating big contracts. ntly Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Florida International University in Miami, after putting in over a year as Associate VP for Development. I have a 21 year old daughter who is a junior (2008) here. South Florida has been home for over 30 years. It is a unique and at times challenging place to live. Even though I speak Spanish nearly fluently (thanks to George Soltys at UHS and Mr. Converse for all the prior Latin), the polyglot of cultures, compression of millions who have been born elsewhere and at times the heat can make things difficult. I own two properties further north and often retreat there for the tranquility of old Florida. I keep in touch with Vinnie Inconiglios, Joe Pomar and Dr. Dan Blue (UHS '61). I've heard from Pete Siskind via Classmates and hope to reconnect with others.
