Robert's Story
I spent 41 years (1971-2012) as a member of the history faculty at San Francisco State University. Since retiring in 2012, I've kept very busy despite some serious medical problems in 2017-2020. Beginning a few months before I retired, I was responsible for the care for my mother who passed away in December 2016. I spend time every week with my granddaughters (born in 2008 and 2012). And I've been writing. Since retiring, I have competed four books, _Victor Arnautoff and the Politics of Art_ (2017), _Harry Bridges: Labor ...Expand for more
Radical, Labor Legend_ (2023), _San Francisco Reds: Communists in the Bay Area, 191901958_ (2024), and _The Coit Tower Murals: New Deal Art and Political Controversy in San Francisco_ (2024). One more book is in the works, _A Short History of San Francisco_, which is scheduled to come out in early 2025. I also self-published a family history--there's a copy in the Beatrice Public Library. In my spare time, I'm involved with local historic preservation activities and retiree organizations. And I enjoy puttering in our garden.
