Robert (Bob)'s Story
Nearly 14 years since I retired as chair of the English Department at UMass Boston. Regretfully, my wife Monica McAlpine and I sold the small house in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston where we'd lived for 43 years. We now live in a first floor apartment in Brookline MA in a wonderfully walkable neighborhood and with a trolley stop just across the street. We have given up our car and go pretty...Expand for more
much everywhere on foot or on public transit. What freedom! I continue to research and to write; Monica continues to paint and she published her first collection of poems last year. Our son Andy and his family live just south of Boston, so we get to see him and our grandkids--Cricket and Rhett--often. We remain in reasonably good health for two old people. Our lives have been full and fortunate.
