Robert's Story
After graduating from UTHS, I attended Black Hawk College and spent a semester at SIU and one at Bradley University in Peoria. I went into the Air Force in December of 1975, having an assignment at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. I soon found that going by my middle name, Byron, was actually a disadvantage. So, I then started going by my first name Robert. In 1979 I got out of the military and became an assistant warehouse manager for Kansas Aluminum in Oklahoma City while working as an electronic technician in town. In 1983 I returned to my old job in the Air Force as an electronic tech which continued until my retirement in 1994. We had two more children, making it the lucky number of 7 in the house. I worked as an electronics tech until 1997 when I took a position at Lockheed Martin working as a field tech, allowing me to travel the US while getting paid for it. In 2008, I traded Lockheed Martin for Bowe Bell and Howell, where I was involved with the US Postal Service on R&D projects with their mail sorting equipment. In 2010, I realized I was getting tired of smelling soldering fumes and traded it for smelling diesel fumes and drove an 18-wheeler all across the country. I am currently living in Vernon, Texas, which is about half way between Fort Worth and Amarillo, and enjoying my “retirement”, but getting bored and thinking about getting on the road again in another big truck.
