Robert's Story
iN jULY 1949, i left my wonderful home town and joined the US Navy and served four years during the Korean "Conflict". After my discharge ,April 1, 1953, I returned to SC and went to work for Cudahy Company. On a sunny afternoon, while working at the packing house I noticed that I was the only one around. There was a sudden absence of employees. I looked out the window frrom the 3rd floor and saw, to my amazement, the Floyd River was overflowing the concrete banks and filling the parking lot. Needless to say, I vacated the premisis with great dispatch. I left the next day for Southern California. There I got a job with Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach. I was with them for six years, During the last two I was promoted and placed in charge of the ground support for the DM-18, or Thor Missile Project. About that tim, I met a wonderful lady and quit my job at Douglas, got married and attended college for 5 years, earning a teaching credential. After teaching for 3 years in So.Ca..we moved to Millbrae, Calif. in 1968. I taught in a jr High, high school and graduate school...Expand for more
over the following years. In the meantime I earned a Masters Degree with Honors (Gpa of 4.0), then proceeded to work on a PhD and taught some college courses.
At this point in time I had built six boats, one airplane, rebuild two antique automobiles, build 10 offices for a major wine company, wrote and had a book published, "A Pioneer in Aviation< 2011" I also designed and built a three story house in Oakland. We have traveled the world, visited many different countries been on several cruises, in the course of living the dream..
My beatriful wife and I have two children, both professionals, and a wonderful grandson, Kyle.
I am very greatful for the life that has been given to me, dispite my mother abandoning me at age three. I attribute my character and what ever degree of success to three people: my grand mother, Julia Ethel Goldsborough my wonderful mother-in-law, Kitty Kaufman, and of courst my loving wife, Eva Kaufman Dye, both Holocaust survivors.
In the meantime we have accumulated a great many good friends as we sail through life in Millbrae, California.
