Robert Dziatczak:

CLASS OF 1960
Detroit, MI

Robert's Story

After graduating from Salesian I was a lost soul bouncing in and out of school because I thought it existed to meet women. I worked to pay for tuition at a ladies shoe store in Downtown Detroit ...can you say "Al Bundy"...and to support a HOT 57 Chevy. Between school and the shoe store it was a dating service. I joined the Air Force in 1961 just before the Cuban missle crisis. They sent me to school 7 days a week, 12 hours a day for a year. I became a surgical technician and was stationed in England, France, Germany and Libya. My deployment was Operating Room Supervisor for Wheelus AFB in Libya. I mustered out of the Air Force in 1966, just as Viet Nam became a twinkel in Johnson's eye. Worked at Holy Cross hospital for a year, but there was no money to be made. So I became employed at Michigan Bell as an installer and 3 month later was teaching school for Ma Bell. Worked my way up thru Bell, AT&T, Lucent, Avaya and retired 5 years ago on a Wednesday and the following Monday hired in at a Business Partner of Avaya called NACR as Regional Deirector for MI, OH, IN, PA, NY, NJ, CT, VE for 150 telecom engineers. Still employed today and loving every minute of it. Keeps me busy and my mind active. I was able to comfortably support my wife of 45 years, Becky formally from Texas, who I met in Libya, ...Expand for more
and our three children. My wife finished college at Uof M and is a high school history teacher. My son is a Principal at Troy High School. My older daughter is a 1st grade teacher in Sterling Heights/Utica school system. My younger daughter is a graphic artist and works for MSU her husband is the IT director for the MSU Microbiology Department. Thank you Michigan State Univ. and U of Michigan, all bought and paid for by Ma Bell and her spinoffs. . I worked for and with some fantastic people some were high school dropouts, high school grads, college grads, masters and even several PhD's. They were a diverse group of all races and creeds. One thing they all had in common; they were intelligent, professional and dedicated and have my deepest respect. Can you imagine, one was even an Ohio State grad. I was always proud to be associated with all of them. I have had the pleasure of meeting and shaking hands with 3 presidents because of the Bell System. At age 70 still employed working for NACR as a Service Delivery Manager and manage 8 accounts with over 40 thousand phones each. it keeps my mind active and current with the latest Telecommunication IP & SIP Technology We currently live on a beautiful all sports lake in Genesee County boating, fishing and swiming is the draw for our 5 grandchildren.
