Robert's Story
Life
My kid is a heart breaker named Dakota James Fortner. Hide your daughters.
I live and work in Hampton Roads, Virginia and I am an Instructional Designer/Developer for Engineering Solutions & Products at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk. Designing and developing instructional material for the Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education course for web delivery.
I am also a part time actor. I have appeared on the Discovery channel in episodes of New Detectives, Critical Rescue, Psychic Investigators, FBI Files and two movies of the week.
School
Well my biggest crush? She knows who she was. As a matter of fact after school was over we went out once and figured out that we were better off as friends. She will always hold a special place in my heart. I love the little ironies of life. It turns out I didn't find the love of my life until I was in the middle of the Bosnian conflict. She was another soldier and unfortunately we were in different units. When the tours ended we were torn apart and I miss her til this day.
The teacher that had the most impact on me was Mrs. Oakley. I was never more challenged in any class before and since. Tha...Expand for more
t being said, band had the most effect over my entire school life.
My wildest memory was the Jazz Band festival where me and Tim Houle snuck back stage and met Chuck Mangione. That was the same one where we watched Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke and Got really drunk. By the way Mr. Youmans, the beer was in the toilet tank. Those things make great coolers with ice. LMAO
Would I do it again? If I could armed with the knowledge I have now. OH hell yes. If not ... hell no.
College
Well I did my college mostly at night while serving in the US Army. I am retired now. But luckily I finished School. I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BSBA in Business Administration. I didn't think I would ever knock that out, not that I didn't have the chops to get it done. It was just finding the time.
Military
I spent 16 years dedicating my life to the protection of our country. Unfortunately, while serving in the Iraq: The First Gulf War. I ended up with lung damage that eventually cut my career short. The only thing is it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I am now in the sweet spot of my life. No regrets! The Army was very good to me. God Bless all who serve.
