Robert's Story
Hello from the sunny South!
How y'all doing today? I'm now in Southport, NC and I fit right in here since I tell everyone that I was born and reared in the South (which is true, by the way, if you want to stretch it a bit). And when people ask where in the South I tell them Ninth and Porter and none of them knows where that is of course.
At a recent passport renewal application I learned that there was a big mistake on my birth certificate--I am actually ten years younger than I thought I was for all these years. This is good because I never really wanted to grow up if you remember me.
At any rate I'm still having a lot of fun. I still work at my technical marketing communications company that I started in 1972--with many of the same clients for many years so it's hard to stop. I have retired from my other career as a charter airline pilot which I did for many years but I still fly my own airplane to visit friends and clients. wn a new 42' trawler located about five minutes from my house which is located on the Intracoastal Waterway which is also about five minutes from the Brunswick County/Oak Island Airport--it was a lucky find.
I have been married, divorced, single, widowed, and am now engaged--probably not much different than most people, I guess. My two children are no longer children; one of them (my daughter) is very well balanced but is a psychiatrist...another of life's mysteries.
I went to the school's 25th and 30th reunions and saw a lot of my old friends. It was an interesting experience to cross the "time bridge" over the passing years; but I saw a lot of old people at that last reunion and I'm not too fond of old people, if you know what I mean.
I hope your trip has been as interesting and rewarding as mine (with the usual bumps and grinds) and I wish you well on the road ahead.
I'm sorry I missed the 50th reunion but because of the ten-year age discrepancy I am not sure I would have been qualified to attend, and besides, old people make me nervous.
