Robert's Story
Where has my life gone? After graduation from High School worked for El Do-Craft Boat Co. in Smackover to fill the time until I went to U.S. Air Force Basic Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. Six weeks of Basic Training followed by 9 months of technical training (electronics/radio) at Keesler AFB, MS found me on my way to Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ. Assigned to the 83rd Tactical Control Flight, the Air Forces's Army. Olive Drab trucks, communications vans, and tents, more like adult Boy Scouts when on training exercises. After almost 4 years in Tucson I cross-trained into Precision Measrement Equipment (now commonly known as Test, Measurement, & Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE)) at Lowry AFB, Aurora, CO, another 9 months of technical school to look forward to. nce tech school was completed, it was back to the desert but this time at Edwards AFB, CA, not just surrounded by deset but the base IS desert. Was fortunate enough to witness (and calibrate some of the equipment required for) the landing of the first Space Shuttle mission on the dry lake bed. Was quite an event for the base. In 1982 left Edwards for RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom with a 6 week school at Lowry AFB en-route. Though assigned to the Avionics Maintenance Squadron on RAF Lakenheath, the PMEL (PME Lab) was actually located at RAF Feltwell and so here I spent my remaining time with the USAF. Discharged in October 1986 I still live in the UK to this day. Have been blessed with 7 children and 7 grandchildren so I feel my life has gone exceptionally well.
