Robert's Story
Joined the Navy in the summer of '59. Trained as a computer programmer. Stationed in San Diego 5 years, Hawaii 7 years, Florida 5 years and did 2 years on an aircraft carrier out of Long Beach. Toured Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, Japan, etc. Retired as Master Chief.
Attended Univ. Of West Florida. Earned BS Computer Science. Worked for Shell Oil as a Senior Business Analyst. Had a wonderful mentor, Larry Grayson, who guided my career.
I retired in 2002.
Currently volunteer at Mission 494 distributing food to the needy and also at 2nd Baptist church doing dishes and mopping floors. God has blessed me with good health and wonderful friends.
I became a 'born again' Christian in 2004. It happened at an important time in my life... and changed me forever.
I go to the gym 4 days a week and have work-out buddies that help me stay fit... and laugh a lot! Usually at myself.
Have several interests/hobbies. Have collected over 30...Expand for more
00 western movies from the 20's to the early 60's. Also tinker with the guitar, practice juggling and do house-husband duties. I like to grocery shop, cook and clean. Yard work kind of rounds out my days.... but is becoming less fun!
Have a wonderful wife of 39 years and also some wonderful children. 2 daughters in Houston, one in Austin. Also a wonderful son who moved to Colorado a few years back. God has blessed me.... Many beautiful grand and great grand children, as well.
I still regularly communicate with Larry Friesen, my oldest friend from High School days. Have also reconnected with several close friends from Longfellow Junior High. God has opened doors to my past and it is so much fun. I feel very blessed.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't recall the light in the window at 1907..... the warm Concord summer nights... and what a wonderful time it was to be a teenager.... And also the sudden changes that life can bring...
