Robert's Story

Hi all I'm currently living in Guilford Ct on the shoreline east of New Haven. I am a partner in a small internatinal consulting firm specializing in strategic planning and focused system improvment utilizing the unique tools of the Theory of Constraints I travel too much but at least have gotten to see much of the US and far more foreign countries than I could ever have dreamed. My favorite by far is Japan Entertaining friends and family, working in the garden, or being out on a boat is the best way there is to deal with stress. I hope friends remember me as being gentle, considerate, and bringing peace to their lives. There is absolutely nothing more important than family! Second is friends. The only reason I work as hard as I do is to be able to provide for my family. THere is nothing that brings greater joy than family gatherings. The second best is friends. i would have friends over constantly. The one person from my past I would most like to see again is Linny Kellers because she was my first true love. Linny was from Fanwood so most of you wouldn't know her. The biggest surprise in my life is that I have had 3 completely different careers. I am an ordained minister, a residential electrical contractor, and a business consultant. Yet, I started out in college studying to be an engineer I have recently completely remodeled my home and I would change absolutely nothing about it. I love it! If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to starting hydroponic gardens, then spend the rest on improving education, Habitat for humanity and the rest on family. College campus life for me was very strange. I was/remain quite shy personally so I had lots friends but almost never dated. I worked a lot on campus and in the community with high school students. My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be still working hard. I was so completely right. To be truly happy I would be effectively reducing world hunger, poverty, and homelessness. I would also be improving the environment! I would be doing it with someone who truly valued me and wanted to be with me. All my children would be involved and we would work closely together. My ...Expand for more
best friend would tell you I'm shy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as very outgoing. My clothing style changed significantly 14 years ago when I began working with an international consulting firm and needed to dress appropriately for the boardroom but I am still most comfortable in a T-shirt, shorts or bathing suit, and sandals or barefoot, In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by doing exactly what I m doing now. It's hard to say who my oldest friend is. Some of us have known each other since kindergarden (who I still enjoy dancing with -Jill -are you listening) at our reunions, but am not in touch with them otherwise. By best friend throughout high school was someone I knew through Scouting, Church, and school. We began as rivals in scouts and by late high school were inseparable. However we have lost touch over the past 10 years and I miss the friendship. My longest ongoing friend is the girl I dated from the end of 9th grade through the beginning of 11th. We are still very close though we don't communicate or see each other often enough. We met at the Bowl of Cherries dance at the Presbyterian Church ninth grade dance. She didn't go to the Presbyterian church, wasn't even from Westfield (she was from Cranford) but her best friend (from summer camp) brought her and we met. After bumping my other best friend from a game of bridge (I knew how to play and he didn't) we got to know each other and have had many first since the - though not all the firsts you may be currently imagining. I never dated anyone from Westfield though there are several I wanted to ask out. I just was too afraid of being rejected. Never felt good enough to date Westfield girls. Well that's a rather odd place to finish my story - but it's not over and there are still many chapters waiting to be written. The most exciting chapters are now about our growing family. I have 5 children, 4 biological and 1 step-daughter. 2 are married so I have added 1 son-in-law and 1 daughter-in-law. AND most important is my 2 year old granddaughter Chloe who will be vacationing with us in Maine in 3 weeks. I can't wait. Hope you are all doing well! Bob
