Robert's Story
In high school I was more interested in football, hanging out with my buddies than anything else. I received a football scholarship to Chadron State. Don Gable and I roomed together and played football at CSC. I did not stay there because I had never figured out what I wanted to do after H.S. Came back to Scottsbluff and went to WNCC and hung out with buddies who were still around. Went back to work at the theaters where I had worked the summer before heading off to college. U began training to be a theater manager and did to that until April 1970. For some reason I responded to an ad for police officers for Scottsbluff. I was hired when still only 20. I worked as a dispatcher until I was 21 and was sworn in in May of 1971. I worked about 9 years as a uniformed patrol officer and also did rotations into the Detective Bureau. In 1979 I was promoted to Lieutenant and placed in charge of the Detective Bureau where I was assigned until I retired in 2005. I worked many very interesting high profile cases in Scotts Bluff County. I loved being a cop. AI retired to take a po...Expand for more
sition with a federal program that provided law enforcement to support to agencies. I was assigned as a Field Coordinator for the State of Nebraska., Loved this job but lived out of a suitcase. In 2007 I was approached by Lehman Brothers to be the Security Manager for the new 30 million dollar call center they just finished building in Scottsbluff across from WNCC. I took this position and got off the road. I worked there through their bankruptcy, sale to Nation Star Mortgage and then the sale by Nation Star to SWPC. SWPC eliminated my position and I retired
I met my wife Ronda through Rex Hacker. She was a nursing student at Mary Lanning In Hastings. We were married in September of 1972. We have three children Robert, Jennifer, and Erin. They all have good careers. Between them 6 grand kids and they all live around Scottsbluff. Ronda is the brains with a PH.D and is an instructor of nursing at WNCC.
I was on the Scottsbluff School Board for 16 years and served 6 as president. I think Henry Meter probably never would think I would become a cop or be on a school board.
