May 2 2009 was the second annual Nazareth Adult Soapbox Derby. What started last year as a dozen cars evolved into almost 30 cars this year. The interesting thing about last year was that all the cars were designed and built from scratch. None of the builders knew what designs the other builders were working on till race day. Last year I used a steel frame plywood body and wheelchair wheels. The other fast car of the first year was plywood and small industrial wheels. What I expected this year is all the other builders would copy our designs many did. For this year I wanted to push my fabrication skills and build something that more resembled a race car. I used fiberglass over a steel frame and more E-bay wheelchair wheels. A friend was interested in driving a car so I built her a car. Her car the X¿15 was Big, Black and Menacing but was purposely built slow and safe. All 3 cars performed flawlessly throughout the day.
