Robert's Story

Hi to all of you out there and hope you are all well in life and in health. I am well and have been flying just about anything that flies for the last 34 years. I specialize in Helicopter External Cargo flying and these days fly the Sykorski SK64 Sky-Crane (spent last summer flying the exact Sky-Crane that put the top on the CN Tower) for a US company in the domestic and international firefighting division. Yes we drop a lot of water, like 12500 liters. I also have my own training company and travel all over the world to introduce companies and pilots to skills and safety that North Americans have perfected and are not common elsewhere. I lived and worked for 4 years in 3 different islands in the Caribbean and these days I spend a couple of months in Mexico each winter doing a regular training gig. I also own a marine construction company and have built 40 floating boathouses and Boathouse/Floating homes in the Vancouver area (A Boathouse/Floating home is a floating building you store your boat in and also has a living space incorporated into the structure). I lived in a beautiful Boathouse/Floating home for many years in North Vancouver but time came to get off the water. My work has allowed me to have lived and worked out of every major city in Canada most of the whistle stops, provinces and territories. These days I spend very little time in C...Expand for more
anada. 3 weeks on 3 weeks off allows for adventures, ventures and mischief. For many years I was married and had lots of fun and travel but either me or the other guy had to go so you can figure out the rest. No kids so it was a smooth transition. Just got traveling more and can't seem to stop. Like most pilots I have trap-lines set up all over and there are lots of women in the world so distractions are plenty. In my spare time I teach scuba diving and continue to knock the premier diving locations on the globe off my list. I get back to Ontario and out to Nova Scotia a few times a year and visit family. BC is great and for work positioning a necessity but for me the Middle East (ON/PQ) and the Far East (NB/NS) is better. As for many of us life has had its challenges, losses and tragedies but considering all that, it's been pretty good. If any of you, your kids or I guess... grandkids are interested in aviation or diving please don't hesitate to ask questions. I have found there are just as many Sharks and Pirates on land as in and on the ocean and maybe I can help you avoid the bite or the rapier. You can find me here, or somewhere between where I have been and where I am going (that would be an airport). Something like "In that space between awake and asleep" It's been a Huckleberry Finn and Peter Pan life so that kind of fits. Rob Libby.
