Robert's Story
Short Synopsis: I entered school at Simon Elementary, then went to Forest Heights when I moved to Sumner Lane. I took the usual tract to Tayac, then Forest Heights, then John Hanson. I changed to Oxon Hill Jr. when I moved to White Oak Drive, then on to Oxon Hill.
I met my wife when I was in high school. Of course, she was in Fairfax Va, (and this was before the Wilson Bridge was built. After HS, I went to UMd for four years. After that, we were married.
Oh, but the government had other plans. I was 1A and the draft was gaojng alphabetically at the "L"s. The Navy didn't look to bad. At least I could swim better than fly.
The Navy proved to be the right coursde for me. Although I entered as a medical corpsman, I was trained as a Lab Technologist.
In the time period between my basic training and corps school, my daughter was born. Number one son was born when we were in Beaufort SC (read Parris Island). It was when I left the Navy and was working at Johns Ho...Expand for more
pkins that our second son was born.
I spent most of my career in laboratory management. We went from Baltimore to Bedford Va, then Gainesville Fl, Columbia TN and Kansas City, KS over the next 30 years. I ended up in Tallahassee working for the Florida Department of Health.
I guess I am sort of flighty when it comes to my time off. I have done many things or as they say in the lab field TNTC. I have a pilot's license, ham radio extra license, CDL (now why do I need that), open water and cavern diving, not to mention art classes, and all the other time and money wasters. Still the "bucket list" grows.
I used to have a website and a precurser to a blog but that became too cumbersome to fit into the schedule. I was thinking of doing something on Google but the grandkids are more important now...and I am thinking of taking a cruise to the Bahamas...and the kayaking season is just beginning...and they say it is going to be a busy hurricane season.
