Robert's Story
Went to Carnegie Tech after high school. Made lifelong friends. Married Pat young, a girl from Mt. Lebanon who I met on the first day of freshman camp. (Married April, 1966) Also attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. Worked as a sportscar mechanic and racing pit crew member at a Triumph/Fiat dealership in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. until asked to join Lyndon Johnson's unfortunate war. I joined the Navy in 1965. While awaiting orders, I raced motorcycles in the Pittsburgh area with my friend Steve Vance during the Summer of 1967 . I ran seven events, got three first place and one second place trophies and a couple of spectacular crashes. Served a couple of years on active duty in Pensacola. Florida. Completed BS in Management from the University of West Florida (Pensacola), and have lived here ever since. Worked in Health Care Administration in the 1970s. Starter wife fizzled out. A few years later married a local girl, Cindy Reynolds (1976 - present) . After a cross-country trip to deliver a 1963 Porsche 356 for our medical director to Fresno, CA decided to go back to my first love: CARS and mechanics. From the 1980s until 2014 I ran my own business named Tartan Garage repairing foreign and domestic automobiles and trucks. Did a local television show for six years title...Expand for more
d "Your Family Mechanic". As an elder in the Presbyterian Church, I was asked to develop the Highland Games (Scottish strong man contests) on our rural church's acreage to help draw people to our church. Ended up being the field sports announcer for 17 years at Highland Games through the southeastern states. Participated in the Sports Car Club of America time trials for six or seven years until a hurricane destroyed our facility. Won the season championship in my class in the year 2000. The Nascar champion got a $1,000,000 prize; I got a coffee cup with my name on it! Cindy and I raised two kids: Christopher, a computer whiz; and Katie, the welfare and recreation department manager at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola. Katie and her husband have three kids (our grandkids!) handsome Bobby, who just graduated from High School, Movie Star Idol Brennan (15) and drop dead gorgeous Austin (17). Cindy and I retired in 2014 and we completed my quest to ride a motorcycle in all fifty states. Also got one day ride in Canada, and one day ride in Mexico. During the last couple of years I have written about 100 short stories about my life's experiences. If anyone is interested, I'll put one in the mail to you. Hope you all have had as enjoyable a life as I have. ..........Bob Malcomson
