Robert's Story

Lets see, Graduated from Monroe High School in 1963 after moving out of Cleveland high school's area. got married on my 18th birthday to my girlfriend, Reyna Carrera of many years (she was a 7th grader at Sutter when I transferred from Northridge Jr. Hi). Worked a few jobs, bought the Gulf gas station at Devonshire and Topanga Cyn. and ran it.I joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1969. Spent the riot years in East Los Angeles (4 1/2 years), Transferred to the Sheriff's Academy as a Drill Instructor and later as the Physical Training and Defensive Tactics Instructor. Then spent the next 8 years attached to Special Enforcement Bureau,/ Emergency Services Detail doing mountain rescue, underwater search and recovery, jumping out of helicopters, Captain of the Sheriff's Rescue Boat, K-9 Handler and also was assigned to Catalina Island. Retired as a Sergeant from the Sheriff's Department, lectured on several different subjects in the private sector and as a guest lecturer in colleges. I am a State Licensed Investigatigator in California and Florida. Have a 100 Ton Master's License and deliver yachts from Canada to Mexico and the Eastern Seaboard. I also lectured in several countries for the State Department, Office of Diplomatic Security, Anti-terrorism Assistance instructing the military and specialized police forcers Maritime Anti-Terrorism. Have spent the last 12 years living in the home I built on the Atlantic in the Florida Keys until March 1, 2013 when I moved out of the Florida Keys and back to civilization. I moved to Plantation, FL, adjacent to Ft. Lauderdale and found I bought Football Hall of Famer, Larry Czonkas old house----if that pool could just talk!!!!LOL I still visit the Los Angeles area on a pretty regular basis. I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel to many different countries and enjoy the world. If I don't have to send my passport back for additional pages, I am staying home too much! ple all over the world are great once you get past the political stuff. Have one grown daughter in the SFV and a granddaughter attending Webster University who graduates May 2013!. My daughter actually attended Monroe and had one of my old English Teacher's, Mr. Ens. She went to him the first day and said her dad was a student of his. My Daughter said Mr. Ens was beaming until he heard my name at which time he asked her what prision I was in!!! He was dumbfounded when he heard I was a Sheriff! Hey all those years hanging out with gangs in the Canoga Barrio finally paid off! What better training for a Sheriff assigned to the East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station! I went from a guy who didn't spend the time I should have studying in High School to being on the Dean's List in College. Once nobody was telling me I had to go to school, I gladly went on my own. Currently divorced, single, looking! LOL. Love the Florida life style and 87 degree water out my back door and can make it from my dock to the Bahamas in 3 1/2 hours. I can honestly say that with all the adversity, I have had a great life and if it was taken from me tomorrow I did and saw things few people have had the opportunity to experience. One last thing, remember life is a gift, I think of all the people I watched die well before their time, the friends I lost in law enforcement and the 20 friends and employees of my wifes TWA family that perished in a heart beat over East Moriches, NYon flight 800 to Paris and I remember those people every day of my life. Those of us left here live for those who perished. Best Wishes to all---stay safe and healthy. Robert Storm (my real middle name hidden from all of you for 24 years!) Murcott-- PS My profile picture was taken in Dahka, Bangladesh on a State Department Deployment. I told the trike driver to get in the back and I was going to pay hime while I rode the bike 4 miles up the road to the shopping area! The smile never left his face!
