Robert's Story
I¿m not sure where to begin to tell you where my life has gone, so I¿ll begin with my professional life and expand upon that with my personal life.
My naval career began in August 1972 when I reported to Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL and ended with my retirement from active duty on August 30, 1992, I walked down the brow of the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) a final time, as the Quarterdeck bonged me off the ship and announced over the ship¿s loudspeakers ¿Senior Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy, Departing.
I was assigned to the following commands:
Pentagon (Washington DC) (Oct 72 - Aug 75)
USS CHICAGO (CG-11) (Homeport - San Diego) (Aug 75 - Apr 77)
Commander Amphibious Squadron FIVE (Homeport - San Diego) (Apr 77 - Dec 78)
Pentagon (Washington DC) (Dec 78 - Apr 84)
USS McCLOY (FF-1038) (Homeport - Norfolk) (May 84 - May 86)
Naval Aerospace Medical Institute (Pensacola) (Jun 86 - Jun 90)
Now that I¿ve bored you completely, I¿ll continue with the personal side of my life.
Life in Minn...Expand for more
esota is a joy! I¿ve adopted Minnesota as my home state or I should say that I have been adopted by the people of Minnesota. Everyone here lives for the seasons. Every season has something great to offer - even winter is not all that bad, if you ensure that you are dressed correctly.
Since retiring, I¿ve worked doing a number of different jobs which include working as a purchasing agent for an office supply company, warehouse manager and facility manager for an agricultural cooperative, and foreman in a manufacturing plant. I¿m currently employed as a correctional deputy (jailer) by the local county sheriff¿s office.
I started working at the sheriff¿s department in May 1999. Working in the jail has proven to be extremely interesting as well as an educational, and eye-opening experience. It¿s truly one of the most challenging positions that I¿ve held since my retirement.
I don¿t think I left anything out ¿ but if I did it must not be too important, or in my old age I¿ve forgotten completely about it.
