Robert's Story
Presently, I am a VP at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in downtown Houston TX. I have been in the brokerage and financial planning business since 1985.
Since leaving Saint Jo in 1953, I graduate from North Texas in 1957 with a B.B.A.
I served as a second lieutenant in the U.S.A.F. in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I worked
for Humble Oil and Ref Co. in Dallas TX. Later, I changed to Lederle Labs, a div.
of American Cyanamid Co. and after serving as a pharmaceutical salesman, then
hospital sales at the Medical Center in Houston TX. From there, Sales Training dept. in Pearl River, NY. After that, for four years district manager in New Orleans, LA .
After moving all over the U.S. I decided to come back to Texas to stay. Events brought me back to Houston where I first joined Merrill Lynch and after approx. four years joined what after many mergers is today Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
In 1955, I married Betty Walker from Gainesville TX. We were blessed with three children who are now grown. They live in Austin, Atlanta and Florida. I have
four grandchildren, ranging in age from 4 to 21. Betty and I were divorced in
1977.
In 1979, I married Jean Alexander Huggett and we have lived in Houston since that time. For the past ten years we owned a second home on Tiki Island, just across the bay from Galveston. After some losses from hurricane Ike, we sold the property in March 2010.
All my life my hobbies were hunting. shooting and fishing. With the bay house I was able to...Expand for more
cover the enormous Galveston bay system and also go off shore when the weather permitted. I also enjoyed sports fishing trips to Florida, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Brazil.
In 2008, I was forced to have a total knee replacement of my right knee. Recovery was normal but about six weeks later I was well enough to go to work and was taking two clients to lunch. An elevator was not operational, but not marked as out of order with the car floor higher than the floor I fell and hit my knee tearing the site open and had to have more surgery to repair the damages.
Due to this, I am no longer able to get around without a walking cane. I have given up hunting and fishing. and sold my two boats and a kayak.
My wife and I have been active Second Baptist Church since 1985. I have served as a deacon for about eight years. We head up a program as part of a team to teach Chinese engineers, lawyers and accountants about U.S. customs, English and what Christians believe. The Chinese are sent to the University of Houston for graduate work by their companies.
I consider myself very fortunate to have lived a full and rewarding life with a few knocks and bruises along the way. Now at 75, I consider every day a blessing and my prayers are that my eyes will be open to help anyone who needs help. I am a born again Believer and am ready and looking forward to eternity. May God Bless you. Please accept his free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, His Son!
