Robert's Story
Life
When I was nine years old, I thought for sure God wanted me to be a priest. When I was 19, I wasn't so sure anymore! I studied at Gonzaga, WVC, and finally EWU, earning a degree in journalism and history in 1984. After eight years as a journalist for various weekly and daily papers, I spent a couple of years taking care of my disabled father. When he died in 1995, I went back to school, at Mt. e. I was ordained a priest on May 25 of that year, served for a year at Christ the King Parish in Richland, and for five years as pastor of St. Andrew's Parish in Ellensburg. On August 1, 2007, I began a new job in Yakima as Chief of Staff for Bishop Carlos Sevilla at the Catholic Diocese of Yakima. I live in an apartment on the third floor of St. Paul Catholic School (the third and fourth floors used to be a convent). Who said, "life is what happens to you, while you're making other plans?"
