Robert's Story
Robert's schools include Leonia High School, St. Peter's School in Peekskill, Syracuse University with a major in Russian. Then as an intel officer ("spook") with the USAF & CIA. Most of my time was spent on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. After I left govt service I went to a tech school for computer programming and had a rewarding career as a Systems Engineer.
My wife, Susan, and I circumnavigated the Caribbean. We lived on our 35' Prout Snow Goose catamaran, with two cats, for 14 years.
We moved off HARMONY in 2000 because of health reasons and became "dirt dwellers". We sold HARMONY in 2004 because it did not make financial sense to pay for slip rental, bottom jobs, insurance, etc. I actually had tears in my eyes when I handed over the ships papers to the owner. The I go back in my vehicle and hear that Hurricane Charlie had Tampa bay in it's cross hairs. ...Expand for more
I smiled and said; "It ain't MY problem."'
We now get our sea time by taking cruises. I think my favorite was a 10-day Baltic cruise with a two day stop in St. Petersburg Russia. What a beautiful city. It took a very short time for my Russian to come back so that I was able to converse with the average man on the street, much to the displeasure of our tour guide.
My second favorite was a 7-day cruise from Vancouver, BC to Seward, AK.
Our latest cruise was a 7-day cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to the Panama Canal. What a marvel of engineering! We have been on several Caribbean cruises, but we always went to tourist traps. The same jewelry store we saw in AK was in Aruba. Susan and I are explorers, not shoppers.
I am retired and Susan is the principal bread winner as she is 10 1/2 years younger than me.
The photo is of me conning HARMONY down the west coast of Florida.
