Robert Vadjinia:

CLASS OF 1978
Brentwood, NY

Robert's Story

Life Currently living in the Great Pacific NorthWest (about 20 miles north of Seattle) The family and I moved into a new house going on a little under three years ago. Semi custom built, which really means I get to finish all the stuff the builder didn't do! Great house though we love it! Still a ton of painting and little tweaks, not to mention all the landscaping we did a couple of springs ago. Let's see.. three kids - 16, 13 and 6 (girl, boy, girl) 16 year old just got her blackbelt and is a Taekwondoe instructor. 13 year old with his team won the league championship in Football, and the 6 year old is having fun with violin lessons. School WHich teacher inspired me the most? I would have to say it was two teachers. Mr Cummings, yep a gym teacher. and Mr. Demarco, junior-high earth science. Mr Cummings for his work ethic, focus and adherence to his own values. And Mr. Demarco for his engaging methods of teaching science. (handstands on the desk and chinups, who could forget those) Funniest, happiest, and craziest? I cannot recall any specifics, but it was probably centered around the soccer team. College Fresh from graduating I went up to the University of Rochester. Left there quickly to move west to Seattle with the family. Intended on continuing at Seattle Pacific University, but one thing leads to another and after a few year delay, wound up at Central Washington University for another short stint in college. routine, I was interested in a very straight path to my goal and didn't want the 'well rounded' path college was forcing on me) Workplace Well once I got out west I went to work in the construction field ( to save money for college) and worked as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker. After a stint in that field, I decided the life of a Ski Bum was for me. I worked and Skied around the northwest for a number of years. After starting to actually move up into the ranks in the ski resort management field, I had to decide if it was time to stay or go. I chose to go. I went to work for the Boeing Company in 88 as a machinist and studied CAD/CAM design. In 95 I changed disciplines from a machinist and went to work in electrical engineering / electrical systems. I've worked on all of Boeing's new planes since the 777 and am currently working in a group that is developing the new computing tools, engineering strategies and processes for the new 787 airplane. I think I'll stay put now as I just recently surpassed my 2oth year there. My wife also works for Boeing and we enjoy working sort of close together, although she's more in the business / supply chain end and I'm in the engineering end. My current position has me over in France about every 3 months for a couple of weeks and that has turned out to be fun. Military Never did any time in the military. Although I had to get a military clearance to do some engineering work for Airforce One. I doubt that counts.
