Robert's Story
Life
I graduated from DeLaSalle Ac in 1964. I went to UMKC and graduated from Rockhurst College in 1969. I left college and walked in Westward H.S. in 1969 and taught there until it became a charter school. I coached Football, Basketball and Track.
I grew up in the Westport area and my great uncle and brother graduated from Westport. I started teaching there in 1969 and coaching all three major sports. I was department chairman of the social studies department. I ran the Christmas program and Tiger Den for years. I left in 1999 when Edison took it over as a charter school. I am now teaching at Van Horn High School. I still keep in contact with most past teachers and we meet at the Flea Market before Christmas Vacation on on the last teacher day of the school year. rking with Ron Zuber was especially fun. Working at Van Horn was like working at Westport in the 70's. I retired from Van Horn and I have been looking for a new teaching position in the area, but I have not found one. My youngest son just graduated from KU and is looking for a job. My oldest son is working and is a professional Ultimate Fighter. He has a Midwest Belt , but he recently lost to the National Champ from Brazil. I am doing Civil War Reenactments and Substituting in the Shawnee Mission District. I also spend much of the week visiting book stores and other interesting places with Terry Moore and Rhesa Davis who are retired also. My brother , Mark has retired and we are spending time managing property we own. I am working on a new concept of a school, which is based on living history. I hope to be able to further knowledge of historical subjects by showing and doing with reading in between the activities. I would love to hear from any of my friends and I generally keep up with the past faculty.
