Robert's Story
Life
As with all my classmates, I graduated EPHS in 1958. Spent the next year sandblasting grave stones at Stanley Granite.I tried to get into Providence College but was not accepted. I went to Roger Williams Junior College for a year & got the grades I needed to be accepted into PC. Spent four years at PC & graduated in 1964 with a degree in Economics. Because I was in the ROTC program at PC, I immediately went into the Army as a Second Lieutenant. I was sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indiana for three months of training in my MOS. From there I was sent to Managua, Nicaragua for two years. Luckily, this was pre Sandinista/Contra war. It was an exciting time & place. The objective of my unit was to map the entire country. To many stories to tell in this space. On leaving Managua, I drove my little Mercedes through all the Central American ...Expand for more
countries & into Mexico. I crossed the border into Texas & headed for RI. I quickly found that RI was no longer the place for me, so I jumped back into that same little Mecerdes & headed west for San Francisco. Didn't no a sole. There my life changed. I found my beautiful wife Lila & we were married in July 1967. Our first son, Michael arrived in 1968 & our second son, Steven arrived in 1969. At that time I was working for the Bank of America but left that job to pursue a job as a mortgage banker. After working for other people for three years, I opened my own mortgage company & have been self employed ever since. No longer involved in the mortgage business, I now dabble in real estate as a broker. Lila & I continue to travel a lot as we have done for the past 35 years. Now with two granddaughters & two grandsons, I must say...Life is good.
