Robert's Story
Well, below is what I wrote on here I guess it was in 2008, so some of it is pretty well outdated! My rant about the printing trade now does not matter any longer, as I am now retired by choice. Yep, on the Social Security and Medicare, and trying to figure out how to stretch dollars beyond their capacity! My little angels are all getting grown up... My oldest is now a mommy herself and my middle one is 17, and my baby Kloie is now 12! Well, my membership here expired long ago, so I cannot see who you are if you leave a note or a visit to my profile... just so y'all know so that you don't think I'm ignoring you. (March2018)
======================================================================
I married Peggy Jane Dunn, Maine West class of 1972, on July 8, 1972. So, that makes, lets see.... 36 years of marriage! OMG!! Who would have ever thought??--- Peggy and I have one terrific son, Jason, born April 1, 1977. Yeah, he was an April Fool's baby, and that's another whole story in itself. We also have three little angels for granddaughters--you can see pix of them in my photos section. You wanna know more, message me. I'd love to reconnect with y'all... TTYL.
Well, what can I say?
Here, at 57, I live in my ULTIMATE IRONY!
When I graduated from Technical College in 1970, after majoring in Printing in both High School and Tech College, it was very difficult finding a job because all the printshops wanted EXPERIENCE! Schooling did not matter ba...Expand for more
ck then.
NOW, that I have spent my entire life learning and perfecting my printing skills, acquiring the experience they all wanted back then, all that experience and mechanical skills doesn't matter to printing employers anymore. COMPUTERS have effectively eliminated the need for the skills and knowledge that I now have acquired! Now they want the schooling, and of course, the schooling that I have is so technically out-of-date, it is of no significance to employers today.
Today, printing employers just want some young kid fresh out of school who has good computer knowledge and savvy, knowledge of printing is unnecessary! The various computer softwares for the printing industry have all that knowledge built into them, so the need for someone with the mechanical skills (that I have spent 30 years learning and perfecting) no longer exists.
Doesn't matter if I know something about computers to be able to do the job I used to do with my hands and ingenuity--- the employers, of course, are going to opt for the younger job candidates who they can pay less because of their lack of experience.
So, there's my rantings and ravings! Oh, one *good* thing about all this, not having a job--- I get to spend more time with my 3 angels, my granddaughters! If not for that, I think I would be a raving lunatic locked away somewhere by now. I'm close to that anyway, but for now..... i guess you could classify me as: "RETIRED, NOT BY CHOICE"!
SO, what do u think??
