Robert's Story

Life Born in Windsor VT, lived there in until I was 5, moved to W.Swanzey NH. Folks divorced and remarried (to a couple they knew-"hey I like your husband..you like mine...").Moved south going into 11th grade. After graduating IHS: 4 yrs Navy mainly in Pensacola + Philly shipyard. Tried to ditch the geeky look and have fun. I half succeeded (had fun, anyhow!). Managed to waste 4 years of pay (a lot went into friends and females in the form of booze), went out a lot but avoided relationships like the plague. Mom passed away in 82, gramp in 85, so I got out in 85 and went to help my gram. 2 weeks living there to help out turned into 4 years.I married, bought a tiny house.I have kids Nicole(18) and Evan(16) who are attractive, athletic and intelligent-not my genes there! She is headed to hairdressing school, he plays football. Coach told me he had more heart than anyone else on the team. Started in Corrections (86-at minimum wage!) after trying real work (blah!). 2 jails and 4 years later went into the "field supervision unit" checking on furloughees in the community. 11.5 years later took position as a probation officer (Dec 01) and enjoying having Sat/Sun off! Some think that means "cop wanna-be" but no thanks-cop is no job for me! Divorced. Got engaged, broke it off. Had a great time dating after that-don't know why people don't have fun dating at 40. Maybe it's because I like me (pretty much), unlike at 15. Dated a lot more. Bought my grandmothers home, but got tired of being a landlord and sold.Loved renting a condo. I try to be a good dad, do a decent days work and enjoy a life. Met an awesome girl, we live together with her 10 yr old ball of fire. Own another house now. Don't know about you folks, but it catches me off gaurd, to think that HS was 28+ yrs ago. After all, I still think I am 20 (except when I first wake up, then I think I am 100!). Trish and I try to get out each weekend to do something, even if thats just going for a ride on our bikes (the motorized kind). Recently went south on a little vacation-no kids type of vacation. Went to the keys, and decided to get married. Life is GOOD! School wow- a memory stretcher... I went to Cutler elementary, then to a...Expand for more
nother elementary school in Swanzey Ctr, beside Monadnock High. After that, Monadnock until 10th grade. Moved to Florida and did Interlachen High for 11th and 12th. Actually, according to Interlachen, I was 2 credits short to be a JR, so I was listed as 10th grade although I took 11th grade classes and went into 12th the following year. They refused to tell me if my 1.5 credit waiver was approved and I would graduate until I arrived in robe for graduation ceremony. I remember when I first met with guidance counselor... she was all enthused and encouraging. Then when she got over her amazement that I had no interest in being on the football team (hey- I was 5'7" and 120 pounds! worse, with NO athletic ability!) she became angry and short, and informed me I was behind in credits. In NH you needed 16 to graduate, and gym was 2x a week and a partial credit. I think gym down there was training camp for football... :-) Although I really didn't make tons of friends, I remember people pretty clearly. Lots of good people, but I was to shy and self concious to try to get to know people. Workplace After my 4 year career in the Navy, I took any job I could get- house painter, stockroom in a resort/restaurant, then as a prison gaurd. I took a break for 6 months to work for Sturm, Ruger in the foundry in Newport NH. That sucked! I left and went back into a different jail, then ended up in probation/parole. I have been a PO ever since... but miss the "good old days" of being out in the field, seeing people, ineracting with the community and offenders... lots of good times and good coworkers! Military My entire career was a sight-seeing expedition of Florida- from the recruiters office in Palatka to the physical in Jacksonville, then down to Orlando for boot camp, Pensacola aboard the Lexington, with a few side trips here and there. Saw the worlds fair in New Orleans, the Mardi Grais, Spring Break in FT Lauderdale, SRA in Mobile, and in Philly. Live Aid happened when we were there. I was stuck with duty weekend! ARGH! Lots of fun and good times. Lots of wasted cash, hang overs and suffering for a week or so until payday rolled around! 10 for 20! lol! I do miss the ocean, though...
