Robert's Story
Life
Went to Erie County Tech for a while (days & evenings). Went to work at Westinghouse in 1964. Met my bride there in 1965 and married in 1968. Left Westinghouse in '70 and got into broadcast radio until '72 when I went to work at New York Telephone. Stayed there for 21 years, then they made me an early retirement offer. I took it! Got into printing & publishing for a while but now I am back in the telephone business, wireless this time. We have two boys, the older one lives locally while the younger one has received his Ph.D. in nutrition from the University of Minnesota and is working at the US Naval Research Lab in Washington DC. Cancer Institute, my response to the chemotherapy has been "remarkable." The chemo is difficult and I am dealing with a number of side effects. Through all of this, my wife of over 40 years has been an absolute saint! I could not have survived this long without her!
I have retired and still keep busy in the woodworking shop.
Pancreatic cancer seems to be very difficult for doctors to find. I spent 18 days at Buffalo General and another 18 days at the Cleveland Clinic before they came up with a diagnosis. I advise and implore all of you who may have gastrointestinal issues (gas, discomfort, pain) to insist that your doctor look very closely into cancer of the pancreas. It hides until surgery is no longer an option (stage 3 or higher) and is usually very aggressive after that. I am lucky to still be alive.
Well, it is the end of May 2009, and I am still around and looking foreword to the 2012 reunion.
